Pear Crisp (with canned pears)
Ingredients
Filling:
3 to 4 cans (15 ounces each) sliced canned pears, drained well
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg or ginger
¼ teaspoon salt
Topping:
¾ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
¾ cup all-purpose flour
⅓ cup light brown sugar
½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
½ cup unsalted butter, melted.
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
Prepare the filling by gently tossing the drained pear slices with brown sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium the pear mixture into your prepared baking dish in an even layer.
Make the topping in a separate bowl by mixing together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and chopped nuts.
Add the melted butter to the dry oat mixture and stir until clumps and moist crumbles the topping evenly over the layer of canned pears.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pear filling is hot and bubbling.
Cool slightly before serving warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
