Scalloped Potatoes 2

Ingredients

3 lb potatoes
1 medium onion
3 Tbs all purpose flour
1/2 Tsp garlic powder
1/2 Tsp dry mustard
1/2 Tsp salt
1/2 Tsp dried thyme leaves
1/4 Tsp nutmeg
1/4 Tsp pepper
pinch of cayenne (optional)
4 Tbs butter, cubed (plus more for greasing dish)
3 cups milk
2 cup cheddar cheese
paprika (optional)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease an 9 x 13 baking dish or a 2 quart baking dish with butter.

Peel the potatoes, then using a mandolin, or sharp knife slice your potatoes about 1/4 inch thick.

Slice the onions thinly.

Mix together the flour, garlic powder, dry mustard, salt, dry thyme, nutmeg, pepper, and cayenne (if using).

Layer the potatoes, onions, flour mixture, and butter, about 3 times in your dish.

Heat the milk until it’s hot, but not boiling.

Pour the milk over the top of the dish.

Cover with foil, and bake until potatoes are tender (about 50 minutes).

Uncover, add the cheese. Sprinkle with paprika (if using) and bake until top browns, then remove from the oven, and let it stand for 15 minutes while the sauce thickens.
